Great historic site, but was sad to see up keep needing done. Would be great to have hand rails up the 2 hills along with benches for people with handicaps to be able to go up it. Would be great if road was grated and graveled. A few little touches would make it impeccable historic site to visit.

Historic and peaceful location. Would recommend.

So totally worth it.

I could hear guns firing as I climbed the hill. Beware: this is not an easy walk. The hill is very steep! Keep an eye out for wildlife. I really enjoyed my visit.

We made the detour while driving from Alexandria, VA back to the Cincinnati, OH area. Well worth the hour and a half on winding 2 lane mountain roads through the backwoods and then another 3 hours to Lexington to get back to the interstate. It's not hard to miss, keep your eyes peeled, and be prepared for a bit of a hike up a hill.

As you can see by the route to get there, this is absolutely in the middle of the backwoods of West Virginia. Make sure you bring an atlas or map to help navigate your way out because cell and data service for your cell phone is going to be spotty at best-we didn't have it for well over 2 hours.

My husband and I was coming back from Kentucky and decided to stop at the Hatfield cemetery. It was worth it too. No cell phone service so you should know how to get there. Once you find it you have to walk up a small hill sort of steep grade to it. Then you go up another little hill that was very rocky. I could do it in flip flops so if you watch where you are going it will be fine. When you get to the top there is the statue and Hatfield graves. Like I said it was worth every second that we went out of our way. It is a piece of history. We will definitely go back!
